Chin hair, hormones and what laser can do

Chin hair often appears or thickens with hormonal changes, including PCOS, pregnancy and menopause. Tweezing and waxing pull the hair but leave the follicle intact, so it returns, frequently coarser. Laser hair removal targets the follicle itself, which is why it reduces regrowth instead of just removing it.

Each session is short. Your specialist maps the area with you first, including the jawline and under the chin if you want them covered, then treats it in a few passes with the Candela laser.

If hormones are a factor, you may need maintenance sessions after the initial series. We will tell you honestly what to expect at your consultation rather than promise a number.

What a session is like

  1. Before. Shave the chin the day before. No tweezing, threading or waxing for four weeks, so the hair root is present for the laser to target. Come with clean, product-free skin.
  2. During. Protective eyewear on, settings matched to your skin and hair, then a few quick passes across the chin and jawline. Expect a brief warm snap with each pulse.
  3. After. Mild pinkness for an hour or two is normal. Daily sunscreen, no exfoliating for a day, and let the treated hairs shed naturally over the next couple of weeks. Please do not pluck them.

Why does my chin hair come back so fast after tweezing?

Tweezing removes the hair shaft but leaves the follicle, which simply grows a new hair. Laser energy targets the follicle itself, so over a series of sessions regrowth becomes finer and sparser.

Is laser suitable for hormonal chin hair?

Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons clients come to us. Hormonal hair can need occasional maintenance sessions after the initial series. We are upfront about that at your consultation.

Can I treat the chin and upper lip together?

Yes. Upper lip + chin is a single appointment of about twenty minutes and is priced lower than the two areas booked separately. See the price table above.

What if I have a darker skin tone?

Our Candela laser has wavelengths suited to a wide range of skin tones. Settings are chosen for you at a consultation before your first treatment.
